Say what now? Los Angeles Lakers' forward and alleged dog abuser Ronald William "Ron" Artest, Jr has filed paperwork in Los Angeles County Superior Court to change his name to "Metta World Peace, Jr." Heidi Buech, who was the 31-year-old's longtime publicist until resigning earlier this week, confirmed the filing to the Los Angeles Times. While he has informed the Lakers of his plans to legally change his name, Ron has not yet filed paperwork with the NBA to apply for a name change on the back of his jersey, Lakers spokesman John Black told the Times. “My understanding is ‘Metta’ will be his first name and ‘World Peace’ will be his last,” Black said. (Among the definitions for "metta" is a Buddhist virtue of kindness.) Ron, ahem, "Metta" is due back in court for a name-change hearing on August 26. He's currently filming The Last Second Shot -- a reality show in which he helps rehabilitate ex-convicts and give them a second chance in life. (Sidebar: Is Ron Artest insane?)
