All my life, I have heard predictions of the last day of earth, the apocalypse, end of the world as we know it (that should be turned into a song), etc. Once, when I was in the 8th grade, there was a prediction of the world ending. I remember that one best because I asked my mother if I could stay home from school. She informed me that I was going to school, end of the world or not. So, I went to school thinking every loud noise was Gabriel's Horn. Since I am still here, and presumably you are also, you know the outcome of that "end of the world" date.
The latest calamity is for May 21, 2011 aka May 21 Doomsday. By my math, that is eight days from now. So, what is up with this new "end of the world" prediction? It started with Christian radio host Harold Camping stating that all Christians will be caught up in the Rapture. Five months later, the world as we know it will end on October 21, 2011. Mr. Camping has generated a lot of publicity as a result of this prediction. I can't say I am surprised by this latest prediction. If you remember, at the start of this year we experienced birds dropping dead to the ground, fish kills, cattle mutilations in Vietnam and other animals just acting strangely. I said at the time, this is going to generate a lot of end times discussion this year. Now, I don't know if Mr. Camping made his prediction before these events or after. I'm thinking he made them afterwards.
The problem with this latest Christian end times prediction is, like all the other Christian end times predictions, it goes against the Holy Bible in Matthew 24:36 which clearly states unequivocally, "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only." Which means only God knows for sure. Not even the Angels in Heaven know. Mr. Camping's rebuttal to this is that this passage means it applies only to the "pre-tribulation" period and does not apply to modern times. I'm curious where in the Bible he interprets that. These kind of people, in my mind, are a detriment to Christianity itself. You have so many people interpreting the Bible to fit their own agenda. It is frustrating. I just choose to believe that only God knows when this world will end. Not Mr. Camping or anyone else knows the exact date of the end of the world. David Koresh also had his predictions. I think everyone remembers what happened to him.
My point is that you should not take people like Mr. Camping seriously. He even states only 200 million people will be caught up in the Rapture. How can he know this? He is placing himself on the same level as God. That is a dangerous practice by anyone. The only thing this sort of thing has ever been proven to do is generate publicity for the one making the prediction. I suspect Mr. Camping's May 21 Doomsday prediction will turn out to be likewise.
Earthquakes, floods, and natural disasters are mentioned throughout the Bible and Book of Revelations as warning signs that Jesus will return to Earth to rule during the Apocalypse. The Japan Earthquake is a sign of Doomsday. The flood caused by the tsunami that followed is a sign of Judgement Day. The Nuclear Disaster that in Japan is a sign of the Apocalypse. Keep your eyes open, there are signs of the May 21 Doomsday all around us.
These disasters will mask the return of Jesus to earth for those who do not follow Christ. Atheists will be shocked come
May 21 2011 when Jesus returns to save His followers in the Rapture, and the rest are left behind until the End of the World due to Gods destruction comes on October 21 2011. There will be other signs of the apocalypse before He returns.
2nd Opinion:
What would be some May 21st Doomsday Scenarios?
Harold Camping's prediction of the Rapture on May 21 is so wrong in so many ways, it's hard to list. He also predicts the end on October 21 of this year which has problems as well. He predicted the end of the world in 1994 and when it didn't occur, he revised his figures and came up with this new date. He was wrong then and he's wrong this timeas well.First of all, the Bible clearly states that Jesus said no man shall know when the end will come but only God the Father. Camping conveniently skirts this by saying that only true "believers" can know. Let's look at other prophecies concerning the end.
Revelations states that there will be two "witnesses" who will preach in Jerusalem for 3 1/2 years before the end....most likely Moses and Elijah.
So if the end is suppose to occur in October of this year acording to Camping, where are the two witnessses? How could they fulfill prophecy of preaching for that long if the end is this year? Camping interprets them as metaphors to get around the issues. There are also prophecies of a terrible war between Israel and Islam ...probably nuclear...that wil kill 1/3 of people on earth and the Temple in Jerusalem wil be rebuilt prior to the end, a comet, asteroid or meteor will strike the earth ...called Wormwood in Revelations 8:11...that will destroy 1/3 of people and animals....great massive earthquakes will occur in places they never did before...mountains will crumble...islands will sink, etc... The recent earthquakes in Japan and elsewhere are just precursors to ones that will make them look tiny by comparison....people will not be safe anywhere.
All of these things and more will come to pass before the world will end. Camping does not allow enough time in his prophecies for these to occur, he reinterprets them to his liking and he had to alter the dates of when the earth was created and the Flood occured for his calculations to line up....dates which no one else asserts as valid.
