Helen Mirren's Belief in Fantasy

Arthur speaks to audiences
Russelle Brand and Helen Mrren in Arthur
Oscar winning actress Helen Mirren firmly believes that her new movie "Arthur" speaks to everyone's fantasy about living a lavish life. "I think it's a fantasy we all have," Helen said, "What
would you do if you had a billion dollars? That's why when the lottery gets really big, it's up to $40 million or $ 50 million, I go out and buy a lottery ticket. Because maybe I'll win." She believes in
winning the lottery. She also believes that "Arthur" will appeal to audiences because it taps into a common dream.

"You fantasize about what it would be like to have millions and millions and millions of dollars. I think we all do that. And here we are. We can see what happens (in this film) -- I think it's a fantasy that we all carry within us, anyone who has ever bought a lottery ticket," the actress said. "We're all dreamers."
The stars of "Arthur" gathered on the red carpet Tuesday for the premiere of the film remake of the eponymous Dudley Moore and Liza Minnelli classic. The new movie features Russell Brand,Helen Mirren, Jennifer Garner and Greta Gerwig.

A Katy Perry-less Brand hit the premiere at the Ziegfield Theater in New York for the screening. He portrays the title character, a wealthy playboy who tries to prove his mother, played by Geraldine James, that he can be independent. However, he has never worked a day in his life and has a potent case of Peter Pan Syndrome. So his mother says she'll cut him off if he doesn't marry a proper woman.

Some Facts About Linda | Linda Evangelista Life | Linda Evangelista Hot Photos Collection | Linda Evangelista Fashion

At the launch of SS 04, David Jones, Sydney

Then I thought screw it! I made scrap books of this woman from any picture of her I could get my adolescant hands onto, I can hear the laughter of my friends now! My generation was the "MTV"generation, the generation that saw pop stars use models in their film clips and make these mere models into "Super" models, and then into "over night" fashion mega stars.

Now, I wish I could say that I have had a day with Linda, but the closest I came to this, was seeing her live at the SS 04 launch for David Jones all those years ago. I did get slightly closer to her when I was working in Pitt Street Mall and saw her glide by the store I was working in. I then followed her into the strand arcade and was politely told by her "minders" that she was not to be disturbed, especially as she was shopping for antique jewellery. I told them of where I worked and that if she was passing by on her way back, I would love a wave. Guess what? I got one! I nearly wet myself and by the time I could scurry out of the store, she was gone into the distance surrounded by her "minders".

Naomi, Linda, Tatiana, Christy & Cindy

I first saw Linda in a George Michael music video, Freedom 90. From the minute I saw her mouthing the words of the song inside her jumper, I just knew that this woman was something else. Next up was and will always be my favorite music video, Too Funky, another George Michael song. She "opened" the faux runway show in this music video and was also the closing number in a feathered head piece, crawling around at the end of the catwalk.

It seemed that almost over night, names like Linda, Christy, Cindy, Naomi, Kate and Nadja were the only things you needed to remember. Oh, that and which one was your favorite of course! The 90's had arrived and with it a slew of mega stars that were not actresses or singers, but models. Supermodels to be precise.

Linda, Cindy, Naomi & Christy in Versace, circa 1991.

When Linda was quoted as saying "I wouldn't get out of bed for less than $10,000 a day", the media went into over drive. This tongue in cheek remark made by a recently woken Linda during a phone interview, proved to not only be a monetary wind fall for her, but also the quote she would become forever famous for.

Not that this was the only thing Linda was famous for, her most famous trademark or selling point was the amount of times she changed her hair color and cut. There was NO other model around willing to go to the lengths (no pun intended) that Linda would, where her hair was concerned. She also has been on every major magazine cover and her total covers are in the hundreds. Her work ethic and professionalism and well known with in the industry and she is also known to suffer fools gladly.

Along with being a mother to her four year old son, which I am sure is one of her greatest achievements so far, she is also an avid spokesperson for bringing awareness to HIV/AIDS research. She modelled for MAC's Viva Glam V campaign with much of the proceeds going back into research for HIV/AIDS. She has also been awarded the World Style Award by the Women's World Awards in Leipzig, Germany.

For me, Linda Evangelista is not only a Supermodel, but also someone who has used her fame and beauty for causes that far outweigh any "fashion moment". Her enduring love of her work and the fact that she is always bringing something new to the industry, even at 45 years of age, is yet another mile stone in a youth obsessed society.

Some of the many faces of Linda through out the years

Linda Evangelista will always be known as a "Supermodel", but for me she is the woman who defied the "pretty" mould when it was still not the done thing. A woman who has forever changed the ideals of beauty as well as being the enduring face of fashion, a true star no matter what the trend may be.

Miranda Lambert – Heart Like Mine Lyrics

I ain't the kind you take home to mama
I ain't the kind to wear no ring
Somehow I always get stronger
When I'm on my second drink

Even though I hate to admit it
Sometimes I smoke cigarettes
Christian folks say I should quit it
I just smile and say, "God bless"

'Cause I heard Jesus, He drank wine
I bet we'd get along just fine
He could calm a storm and heal the blind
And I bet He'd understand a heart like mine

Daddy cried when he saw my tattoo
Said, he loved me anyway
My brother got the brains of the family
So I thought I'd learn to sing

'Cause I heard Jesus, He drank wine
And I bet we'd get along just fine
He could calm a storm and heal the blind
And I bet He'd understand a heart like mine

I'll fly away from it all one day
I'll fly away

These are the days that I will remember
When my names called on a roll
They'll meet me with two long stem glasses
Make a toast to me coming home

The concert was amazing, We had so much fun! And that made it even better. Here is a few pictures of her wearing it.

Stevie Nicks

Here is my new idea for posts, on Thursdays, even though I can never keep up with any "features" I promise: The rare famous people whom I love. Today we are featuring Ms. Stevie Nicks.

I used to think Fleetwood Mac was the gayest band in the world. When I was in high school, I thought anything that didn't sound like Television or The Dead Boys or something was totally fruity and soft rock. I refused to listen to synthesizers, and I probably didn't even like most female vocalists. In many ways, it was my friend Gerard from college who taught me not to take heed to fascist and typically "masculine" music standards, which really widened my horizons, man.

Anyway, now I love Fleetwood Mac- especially the Stevie songs, though I must agree with my other friend, Julia, when she says she likes the oft-overlooked Christie McVee songs, even though Christie wrote like a zillion hits for the band, from the singer songwritery to the mega hits like "Don't Stop". But I love Stevie because her songs have the slow and slightly-grinding-but-smooth-but hard-at-the-same-time 70's rock sound. They are catchy but intense, hard rocking but almost feline in nature. In any event, she is extremely talented but rather underrated in the world of rock music, and I think people forget that Fleetwood Mac is largely a female-driven band.

Stevie's look was a gypsy/boho/witchy/ragged orphan/disco kind of thing, which was uniquely her own, and it fit her music well. Though she had a feminine and flowy look, she was fierce and drag queenworthy; apparently there is a party in New York called "The Night of 1,000 Stevies" in which everyone (meaning gays) dress up like Stevie. Simone and Gaby always say they're going to go to that. (Way to name drop!)

Christine McVie's pants here rule! I want jeans like that!
